All collected HHW materials are handled and packaged for disposal by technically trained personnel. Following collection, the transport of all materials is performed by a licensed hazardous materials transporter. The method of disposal depends upon the type of material.

Approximately 80% of all materials collected through the City of San Antonio HHW Program are recycled. Materials that cannot be recycled are disposed of by a licensed hazardous materials treatment, storage and disposal facility.
